7) Sinister Solifugae

You might have seen these guys referred to as camel spiders. Solifugae are arachnids, but not spiders. Despite looking 1050% gross they are completely harmless to humans. However, if one crawled over your hand in the half-light you might puke up a lung in shock. There are over 1000 different Solifugae species on earth and the largest can reach around 15 cm in diameter.
Military staff posted out in Iraq and Afghanistan tell tales of these camel spiders eating human flesh, but that’s not true. They might give you a nasty nip, but that’s about the extent of it, they don’t carry venom onboard. What is true though is that they can run up to 10 mph and they look disgusting.
