Following the news that Birmingham’s Winson Green prison was taken over last week, yet another prison has been involved in a disturbance, this time in Kent.

A wing of HMP Swaleside on the Isle of Sheppey was taken over by around 60 inmates during a riot. The Prison Officers Association has announced that there were disputes between inmates and prison staff over how many hours people would spend locked up over the Christmas period.
The prison guards were forced to retreat during the disturbance, which started at around 7pm last night. Here’s the footage that was leaked from the riot, showing prisoners during their takeover of the wing:
An investigation has now been launched following the incident. No doubt there will be some sort of punishment, although hopefully it won’t be so bad that the inmates resort to putting on a dirty protest. Can’t say the same for the Birmingham riot aftermath.
