Twitter User’s ‘Suicide’ Exposed As Possible Marketing Stunt For Pop Album

I mean granted, it isn’t really much better to fake suicide on Twitter to try and get more followers, but it might be a slightly better explanation than the one that the police are offering that it was some kind of clandestine marketing campaign to raise awareness about the album. I mean everything about this girl’s tweets pretty much make sense aside from the fact that her IP address was masked, which I can’t really explain. It’s kind of weird that she waited a day to tweet again but from the frequency of her tweets it seems that she’s sitting at a computer and doing it rather than using a smartphone, which makes a bit more sense.

On the flipside of this though, she spent a hell of a lot of time tweeting today trying to persuade people she wasn’t promoting Ariana’s album and was just doing it to get followers. I know it’s hard to tell when you’re being played on Twitter because there’s so few characters to deal with but she did seem generally shocked and unaware about everything that had been going on with her account, and also seemed desperate to let everyone know she wasn’t promoting the album and was merely doing this to get followers.

Again, that’s a pretty weird stance to take but I think if I was some teenage girl who faked my suicide on Twitter (that’s a real hard mindset for me to get into but I’m giving it a shot), I’d probably want people to know the correct reasons why I did it, especially if it did start a national scandal. I also think it’s more likely that she did it to get more followers because (sadly) it seems that’s how a lot of people think about these things today.

Of course, you could argue that the ‘hoaxer’ is only saying all this so that any negative publicity associated with Ariana can be diverted but again I fail to see how anyone would think that this is a good idea in terms of promoting her album, especially after the whole story has blown up everywhere. Sure, it’s good to have a bit of damage control but it just seems really stupid and pointless. There’s also more chance of the ‘hoaxer’ actually being tracked down and arrested.

It would probably make more sense to just delete the account if it isn’t a legitimate account. It would also make more sense for the girl to delete the alleged tweets if she had a brain. Given the fact she thought it was a good idea to fake suicide on Twitter though it would seem like she doesn’t have a brain, so this again kinda backs up my theory that this is just some idiot girl and not some weird marketing scheme.

Either way, regardless of what the actual intentions of this user’s account were with this fake suicide attempt, the fact that they even thought to live tweet a suicide is sick and disgusting and completely messed up. Hopefully this doesn’t ever happen again but to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if it hadn’t already happened before and wasn’t the first of many.

If we ever find out the identity of this girl/hoaxer then we’ll let you know but it would be interesting to hear just what everyone else actually thought about her identity. Let us know in the comments.
