The Simpsons Predicted FIFA’s Corruption Arrests Over A Year Ago

When I actually used to bother to tune into The Simpsons, I was always pretty aware of how their socio-political commentary on current events was always pretty cutting and on the ball, but I had no idea whether or not this was still the case. I figured as nobody really watches it anymore and even less will now that the voice of many of its lead characters has left the show, it probably didn’t have its finger on the pulse as much as it once had, but it turns out that couldn’t be further from the truth regarding the FIFA corruption scandal.

In an episode that was broadcast last year in March, a FIFA official visits Homer’s house on Evergreen Terrace and starts to explain to him the widespread corruption that exists within the organisation, when out of nowhere he himself is arrested. Pretty apt given the events of the last 48 hours.
