If you’re some nobody tennis player coming up through the ranks, then it’s probably best that you don’t try and create a scene by repeatedly kissing a TV presenter during an interview. Especially when she’s clearly not into it and thinks you’re a disgusting creep.

Unfortunately not everyone got the memo and 21-year-old Maxime Hamou thought that this was the perfect way to behave after he was knocked out of the French Open by Pablo Cuevas on Monday. He was approached for an interview by Eurosport journalist Maly Thomas and whilst he was talking to her in French, he kept trying to kiss her neck.

Whilst this was kind of cute to begin with, it soon becomes really creepy and gross. Take a look for yourself below:

What a jerk. Thomas has stated that she’s pretty unhappy with him following the incident, claiming that she would have punched him if she wasn’t live on air. Not really sure why she didn’t do that anyway, but hey.

The French Tennis Federation have also come down pretty hard on Hamou, removing his accreditation from the Open and calling his actions ‘reprehensible’. That perhaps seems a tad harsh, but I suppose he was being a dick so you might as well throw the book at him and condemn him.

He’s been quick to apologise himself, but instead of saying it was just ‘locker room talk’ he actually sounds a bit more sincere:

I want to offer my deepest apologies to Maly Thomas if she felt hurt or shocked by my attitude during her interview.

I just lived a wonderful week here in Roland Garros living my most beautiful emotions as a tennis player, and I let my overflow of enthusiasm express myself awkwardly towards Maly, who I know and sincerely respect. Nothing of all that is written was my intention.

I am at her disposal to apologise to her in person if she so wishes. I learn every day from my mistakes to become a better tennis player and a better person.

Well, kinda a bit more sincere – it’s still really weird that he would act like that in the first place. So it goes though I suppose.
