‘Survivor Greece’ Pulled Off Air After Contestant Loses Leg During Filming

The Greek version of Survivor has been pulled off air after a contestant had his leg mangled by the propeller of a boat, resulting in a ‘partial amputation of his left leg.’

Stavros Floros, 22, had been spearfishing between shoots on set at the Dominican Republic when a passing tourist boat accidentally struck him while he was in the water. Which is odd because they’re meant to be on a remote island in the middle of nowhere…

According to Entertainment Weekly, the boat’s propeller chopped Stavros’s left leg below the knee and caused significant trauma to his right ankle.

Survivor Greece production company AcunMedya said: ‘The contestant remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is out of danger.

‘From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant, while the competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances.’

SKAI channel, which airs Survivor Greece, confirmed that production had been halted, and said that they will assist with Stavros’s’ treatment and recovery, which is good to hear.

According to Greek news website tovima, the captain of the boat is being investigated over the incident.

As for Stavros Floros, he’s actually feeling incredibly optimistic. His mum told the outlet: ‘He’s happy to be alive. That’s what he told me: ‘Mom, why should I be sad? I’m alive! We’ll deal with everything else later.’

Fantastic attitude from the lad. Imagine losing your leg in a tragic accident at 22 years old and being able to look on the bright side just days later. With that outlook I’m sure he’s going to be just fine.

Still, it’s another in a list of tragedies for the Survivor franchise. I’ve just been looking into it and apparently on the French version in 2013, a contestant died of a heart attack and ten days later, the show’s doctor killed himself because the media accused him of not doing everything he could to save him. How fvcked up is that?

As Stavros says, he survived, so it’s not all bad news. And exactly on-brand for the show, to be fair. Here’s hoping he heals up quick and is back home with his family in Greece in no time.
