NHS Medic Sacked After Taking Suicidal Patient On A Date
An NHS medic has been sacked for gross misconduct after chatting up a vulnerable patient and taking her on a date.
Ivan Perkins, 42, from Basildon, Essex, treated a woman in the back of an ambulance following a suicide attempt. During the encounter, he showed her his social media profile (under the name “Kai Perfect”) and told her to “hit him up”.
Hit him up she did, and the two exchanged flirty texts where Perkins called her “gorgeous lady” and “Sleeping Beauty”. Smooth!

Despite her precarious mental state, Perkins persuaded the woman to meet him for a “date” the day after her suicide attempt. He also bought her a bouquet of flowers following a subsequent self-harm incident rather than alerting medical authorities.
Eventually it all came to light when the woman told a different ambulance crew about the “date” during another emergency call.
Perkins, who had worked for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust trust since 2017, attempted to sue for race discrimination following his dismissal.

An employment tribunal dismissed his claim this week, ruling that his sacking was based solely on his breach of professional boundaries and safeguarding policies.
Perkins argues that the he “reluctantly” gave her his number “when she asked for it”, and told her “to only use the number if she felt that no one was listening to her and as an alternative to self-harming”. Just going above and beyond for a vulnerable patient, that’s all!
At 42, he should probably know better, but I do rate the attempt to claim race discrimination. Laughable, but worth a shot I suppose.
