Sir Jim Ratcliffe Apologises For Immigration Claims

Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has issued a public apology 24 hours after claiming that the UK has been ‘colonised’ by immigrants.

Well, to be specific, what he actually apologises for is that his ‘choice of language offended some people in UK and Europe.’

Here’s the statement in full:

Well, I guess you can call that an apology? Basically sticking by his guns but saying “I’m sorry that you were offended.” Typed up from his tax exile in Monaco by a crisis communications expert, no doubt. Apologies don’t get much more sincere than that, do they?

Now obviously Sir Jim Ratcliffe is entitled to his views on immigration and politics, but it’s still not clear what he was thinking by saying all this publicly. All it’s done is embarrass Manchester United and potentially upset some of the players and staff who work for him.

The guy spent a bit of time with Nigel Farage and then thought it would be a good idea to come out and say “immigrants have colonised the UK” like that isn’t a PR disaster waiting to happen.

Well anyway, at least Keir Starmer can feel like a tough guy now after demanding an apology from him on X yesterday.
