It feels like a hot minute since we’ve really had a Netflix documentary that literally everyone in the world has been transfixed by – maybe that one about the Murdaugh murders? – but ‘The Deepest Breath’ definitely looks like it might have a shot at it.

The feature length documentary tells the story of two free divers Alessia Zecchini and Stephen Keenan as they team up to try and break records in the sport whilst simultaneously not dying and staying safe. In case you don’t know what free diving is, it’s basically holding your breath for as long as possible and descending to almost unimaginable depths in the ocean.

It sounds impossible but I’ve seen some videos of these guys before and it’s the real deal. In the documentary, Zecchini prepares to take on a spot called The Blue Hole in Dahab, Egypt which sees her to descend to a distance of 184 feet and then swim through an 85 foot tunnel, all without breathing. Wow.

You can check out the trailer below:

The story of a champion freediver and expert safety diver, whose lives seemed fated to converge at the height of their careers.

A look at the thrilling rewards — and inescapable risks — of chasing dreams through the depths of the ocean.

Yeah that does look pretty dramatic doesn’t it? Apparently there are some sequences in it when the divers run out of air that are so expertly shot that it actually feels like you’re running out of air just watching it. Whacking it on the watch list immediately.

For more of the same, check out this Netflix documentary about the mystery of a woman’s identity. That was a real classic.
