By now everyone’s seen or at least heard about the disgusting video in which West Ham’s Kurt Zouma is seen kicking his cat, lobbing shoes at it and slapping it across the face. We’re including the footage below with a viewer discretion warning…

Last night, 27-year-old Zouma issued an apology for the attack and insisted it was an isolated incident (yeah, right):

I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret.

I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.

They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.

Well I mean he only regrets it because it ended up online, right? There’s no chance this was an isolated incident given the video is made up of a bunch of clips, and just the unlikelihood that the only time(s) he abused his cats were the times it was caught on camera.

West Ham also put out a statement:

West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.

We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.

As did the RSPCA:

This is a very upsetting video. It’s never acceptable to kick, hit or slap an animal, for punishment or otherwise.

Something tells me Zouma’s brother Yoan, who uploaded the footage on Snapchat, is going to be the one on the receiving end of some slaps and kicks after all this went viral. I’m not sure what kind of punishment Kurt Zouma could realistically face; the Metropolitan Police have already said they won’t be investigating him. Maybe the RSPCA will follow up and take his animals off him and maybe ban him from keeping pets for a while. Can’t be harming defenceless animals and getting away with it even if you are a multi-millionaire footballer.
