Johnny Somali’s Mum Is Seeking Leniency From A Judge Ahead Of His Sentencing In South Korea
For the uninitiated, Johnny Somali is a controversial live-streamer from the US whose whole thing is basically to be as rude and obnoxious and unlikable as possible, and I guess he figured that South Korea would be a safe place to behave this way.
Well, it turns out that even South Koreans have a limit on how much disrespect they’re willing to tolerate, with the 25-year-old streamer now facing guaranteed prison time for his antics in the country over the last couple years. For example…

As per Dexerto, Somali’s mum has now submitted a petition to a South Korean court seeking leniency and apologising for her son, real name Ramsey Khalid Ismael, ahead of his scheduled sentencing on 15 April 2026.
Which is a nice gesture, but according to legal experts, is unlikely to influence the judge, given Somali’s history and the timing of the request.
Prosecutors are seeking a three-year prison sentence with hard labour, a fine of $100 and a five-year registration as a sex offender in South Korea.
Somali faces multiple charges, including:
- Four counts of interference/obstruction of business.
- Two violations of the Minor Crimes Act.
- Two charges related to sexual violence (specifically involving deepfake content).
That last charge stems from an AI-generated deepfake video that Somali made depicting popular Korean streamer BongBong having sex with him. Turns out South Korea is the last country you want to be doing something like this in; having already cemented its reputation as a global leader in combating digital sex crimes, and having criminalised not only creating deepfake p0rn, but also possessing or simply watching it.
Creating an AI deepfake sex tape of yourself with a popular Korean streamer? You’re basically begging to be sent to prison.
Aside from his mum’s letter to the court, Somali also pleaded for leniency during a hearing earlier this month. He claimed he did not realise the severity of his actions or their illegality under Korean law, and blamed his behaviour on the influence of alcohol.
Even before his arrest, Somali was being routinely beaten up by outraged South Koreans in the streets…

If that’s how usually law-abiding South Koreans treat him in the streets, just imagine what’s waiting for Johnny Somali in prison? Not looking good for the guy.
