Jacob Elordi Is Reportedly In Talks To Play The Next James Bond
We’ve had years and years of speculation over who will be replacing Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, but all we know for is that Dennis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049, Sicario) is directing the next 007 flick.
Well word on the internet streets is now that Jacob Elordi has held meetings with 007 producers, Amazon MGM executives, and Villeneuve, and is the #1 pick to play 007 in the new Bond film.
It does make a lot of sense, I suppose. Elordi is one of the hottest actors on the planet right now following his roles in Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein and Saltburn. As an Australian, he also pulls off a very convincing British accent.
At 28, Elordi aligns with the studio’s strategy to reboot the character with a younger actor for an origin-style story. In fact he would be the youngest Bond in history. Going by previous track records he’ll probably be in the role for 10+ years, so hiring someone relatively young could prove to be a good call.
At 6’5, Jacob Elordi would also be the tallest Bond in history. Not exactly idea for keeping a low profile and disappearing into a crowd when your enemies are looking for you. One of the cool things about Daniel Craig was that he was average height and felt like a scrappy but brutal underdog sometimes.
Then again Sean Connery was 6’2, and they can always use CGI to make Elordi look shorter or the bad guys taller, as lame as that would be.
The main criticism I’m seeing though is that Elordi is too much of a “pretty boy” to play Bond. He doesn’t really look like someone who could beat a bunch of people up, even if he is the tallest person in every room.
If he’s in it for the long haul, maybe the first movie could be about him getting recruited and training, before bulking up and becoming a new agent on his first mission? Then over the next 10 years in the role he has plenty of time to become a proper “manly” James Bond like all the Bonds before him.
One thing’s for sure – the women of Hollywood will be absolutely clamouring the Bond girl role now. Apparently it’s between Jodie Comer and Michelle Keegan?!
