Influencer Whose Daughter Took Her Own Life After Bullying Faces Backlash Over Funeral Photos
A mum whose daughter died by suicide after being trolled online is being accused of Erika Kirk-like behaviour after sharing photos of the funeral on Instagram.
Sophie-May Dickson, 32, from Essex, shared photos and video from the funeral of daughter Princess Dickson, 16, who was bullied for two years by users on Tattle Life, a ‘gossip’ forum where users mock influencers.
Social media users are now attacking the mum over her ‘glamourous’ attire and ‘contrived’ photos of her head resting against the coffin…
The mum, an influencer herself, wrote: ‘The day I tucked my baby to sleep for the very last time. The hardest goodbye. How do you ever accept kissing your baby for the very last time? I love you princess. You are loved beyond belief. I’ll see you next in heaven girl. Please be at the gates to greet me when it’s my time and show me all around. Miss you so much – this missing piece will never ever be filled. You took a piece of me when you left.’
I was going to post some of the comments under her IG here but they’re pretty brutal and you can imagine the sort of things they’re saying to her. I mean, I get it. White high heels seems a little much for a funeral. The fit is more “night out with the girlies” than “paying respects to my daughter”. But then who are we to judge? Everyone grieves in their own way.
Sophie-May, who appeared on Channel 5’s Blinging up Baby, was the initial target of the site’s trolls, but the abuse shifted toward Princess after her mum deleted her own account. Beyond awful that a 16-year-old girl could be systematically bullied by a bunch of anonymous haters and trolls like that, and simply tragic that it affected her to that extent.
Sophie-May Dickson has hit back at the criticism of her funeral attire/photoshoot, defending her right to grieve and share her daughter’s final send-off as she chooses. Fair enough really.
