It’s been well publicised that Danny Dyer will be leaving his role as Mick Carter in ‘Eastenders’ after nine years, but I don’t think any of us imagined that he would trade in one classic UK soap for another straight away.

This is what the writers of Hollyoaks are hoping for though after it was revealed that they’re writing a ‘juicy part’ especially for Danny in the hopes of tempting him from BBC One over to Channel 4. Here’s what an industry insider said about the move:

The scriptwriters think he would make a brilliant addition to the cast.

They are putting their heads together to write a juicy part to entice him.

They would love to create a special role just for him which draws on all his charms – as well as letting him keep his own accent.

Yeah that really does sound like they’re kinda desperate doesn’t it? Just really want that big name signing for the show don’t they? I also doubt that Danny Dyer is gonna wanna quit one major soap opera and go straight into another one, but what do I know about the subject really?

The other part of this that’s funny is that Danny Dyer has actually appeared on the late night version of ‘Hollyoaks’ – the aptly named ‘Hollyoaks Later’ – as a gangster known as The White Man, so wouldn’t it be kind of weird if he showed up in the show as someone else? Surely the other cast members would recognise him and question why he was now someone else?

Doesn’t seem like the writers have thought this one through but still interested to see what they come up with. Probably won’t end up watching it though.

For more of the same, check out these five times that Danny Dyer was an absolute diamond geezer. Major legend.
