Woman Who Asked McDonald’s About Allergens Is Left A Note Saying ‘F*** Off And Die’

I’m not sure why someone with severe allergies would ever eat anything from a mass market food chain, but you still wouldn’t expect to be told to ‘f*** off and die’ for merely asking for allergen information, would you?

All 63-year-old Bernie Bowles – who suffers from Coeliac disease – did was ask if the Galaxy Caramel McFlurry contains gluten at the Maccies in Weyhill Road, Andover, Hampshire.

An employee handed her the official McDonald’s UK Allergen information guide, which also contained this lovely handwritten message on the front:

McDonald’s has issued an apology to Bernie and confirmed the message was scrawled by one of its employees, with whom they took ‘appropriate action’ (whatever that means). They also hooked Ms Bowles up with a £15 voucher as compensation. Well in!

Just one problem – Bernie Bowles says she hasn’t received any voucher and was instead asked for a copy of the leaflet while they look into the incident. She’s now accusing McDonald’s of seeing customers with allergies as ‘an inconvenience’. She told Metro:

‘When I asked if the McFlurry was gluten-free, the staff member wasn’t sure so she walked off and then handed me that allergen leaflet.

I saw there was writing on it. There were figures on the back and some writing on the front, but I hadn’t actually read the cover because I’d just opened it.

I didn’t want to buy one and risk having a reaction, so I went to hand the leaflet back. The worker said I can keep it for future reference, she had no clue what was written on it.

When I came home, I could believe what was written on it. I thought that, quite honestly, it’s very inappropriate and it’s quite offensive.

It adds insult to injury because I didn’t know if I could eat the McFlurry and then I saw that.’

Traumatic stuff indeed. The funniest part is that the message probably wasn’t even aimed at her at all. In all likelihood it was written by some bored and immature McDonald’s employee ages ago and nobody noticed. It just so happened that Ms Bowles was the one who was handed that particular leaflet when she asked about allergen information. Oh well, all’s well that ends well – so long as they get round to sending that £15 voucher.
