Henry Nowak’s Final Words To His Killer: “I’m Not Racist”

Newly released court documents and hundreds of pages of evidence have revealed that Henry Nowak pleaded “I’m not racist” to his killer moments before he died.

Nowak, 18, was stabbed to death by Vickrum Digwa, 23, after the two got into a stupid argument over pavement space while crossing each other on the street in Southampton.

After stabbing his victim, Digwa called the police and falsely claimed he was the victim of a racist attack, which led officers to handcuff Nowak as he lay dying in the street. All while the student repeatedly told them he had been stabbed and couldn’t breathe…

By the time officers realised Nowak was bleeding to death, it had been 8 minutes.

A judge dismissed Digwa’s racism defense and he has since been convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 21 years.

Court documents also revealed that Digwa had collected a whole armory of offensive weapons at the family home; three machetes, 37 swords, three ninja swords, two flick-knives or gravity knives, eight knuckledusters, an extendable baton and a manriki-gusari (traditional Japanese weapon).

Five residents who lived along the street where Nowak was stabbed gave evidence at Southampton Crown Court during Digwa’s trial.

Andrew Mortimore, a long-time local, told the court he heard shouting and male voices at around 11.25pm, causing him and his wife, Fiona, to peer out the window.

Mr Mortimore told the court: “During the time I was observing these people outside the block of flats, I think I heard a male voice say, ‘I’m not racist.’

“I couldn’t hear anything else that was being said. These are the only actual words I think I heard.”

Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC told the court that “even as Henry is dying” he said: “I’m not a racist…”

The lawyer added that Digwa’s brother called emergency service and complained that Nowak “verbally attacked his brother racially”.

In the background, Nowak could be heard saying: “No, I didn’t.”

Also part of the evidence, Nowak’s ex-girlfriend, a woman of Jamaican and Irish descent, said that “Henry was very proud of my heritage”.

Amazingly, Vickrum Digwa has launched a bid to overturn his murder conviction and reduce his sentence, and a Freedom of Information request has also revealed that he received £79,621 in legal aid throughout this process.

In the meantime, word is that he’s been ‘cowering’ in his cell as fellow inmates keep threatening him. Sounds about right.
