In Cuba there are so few cars that hitchhiking is a pretty standard way of getting from place to place. It is a legal obligation for government vehicles to pick up anyone they see hitchhiking along their way.

I’m sure it works very nicely in Cuba but I really don’t think it would be a practical solution in the UK, the police would never get anything done and all of their vehicles would smell like cider and wee.
