Geronimo’s chief, Mangas Coloradas, sent him to his Father-in-law – Cochise’s band for help in revenge against the Mexicans, he willingly joined with rage burning in his eyes. It was in this battle that he got his name Geronimo. Some scholars believe it was from a mispronunciation of his name, others say it was due to the soldiers he was mercilessly attacking calling for help from their Saint Jerome.
He ignored clouds of bullets and hacked Mexicans down with his knife. He was fearless in battle, I guess he figured he had nothing to lose, his family were dead and his enemies were stealing his ancestral home. You would be more than miffed wouldn’t you?
Geronimo remarried, sometimes having more than one wife at a time, he racked up 9 in total.
