Escape To Victory (1981)

The film is set in a Nazi prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. A group of Allied prisoners of war agreed to play a football match against the Nazi Germany team to bargain the conditions for their captivity.

Michael Caine plays a British POW and former professional footballer who was roped into organizing this football game which ultimately turned into a wrongful publicity stunt for the Nazi German authorities.

However, against all odds, the POW team (including Pele) manages to score an agonizing draw from 4-1. The team also takes advantage of a pitch invasion during the final whistle to escape the camp’s clutches. Sylvester Stallone manages to score an incredible save that tilt the odds in their favor.

The Replacements (2000)

The Replacements is one of the best football movies ever made. Loosely based on the true story of the 1987 NFL strike, The Replacements narrates the story of the Washington Redskins. They emerged victorious in all three replacement games without their regular players and won the Super Bowl XXII.

 

The movie is memorable and stars big celebrities, including Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Orlando Jones, and Jon Favreau. In the film, the players of the Washington Redskins team go on strike, and the team owner has to desperately call their retired former coach Jimmy to train a group of rag-tag replacement football players to finish the team’s season.
