When you keep forgetting to remove your old contact lenses before putting in new ones, it might be time to consider a nice new pair of glasses instead. Certainly the case for this woman over in California who had to visit the doctor and have 23 contact lenses scraped out of her eye ball.

Warning – pretty gross video below:

Brutal. According to the ophthalmologist, the patient put in a new set of lenses for 23 days in a row without ever taking the previous day’s out. Doctor Katerina Kurteeva later said she had to use a very fine surgical instrument, a jeweller’s forceps, to separate lenses as they were “essentially glued together after sitting under the eyelid for a month.” Yikes.

Speaking to Insider, Dr Kurteeva added:

“In nearly 20 years of practice, I had never seen anything like it. The patient couldn’t believe it either and asked if I was sure about the number I was counting.”

The patient was sent away with eye drops and was feeling “better already”, so that’s good. You have to think this lady has some age-related cognitive/mental issues because there’s just no way you can forget to take your contact lenses out 23 days in a row. Unless you’re getting absolutely bladdered every night but I think we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt on that one. Anyway, I think I’ll opt for the laser injury after watching this. Cheers.
