One of the most shameless and outrageous examples of dine-and-dashing in history occurred at the weekend after a family-of-eight stuffed their fat faces at an Italian restaurant in Wales, and then left without paying their £329 bill.

Bella Ciao Italian restaurant in Port Talbot, Wales, said the diners ordered expensive steaks, 15 bottles of fizzy drinks and multiple desserts.

CCTV shows the mum in the group initially trying to pay with a savings account card, which was reportedly declined twice.

She then told staff her son would wait inside while she ‘got her other card’ – but of course, they vanished instead.

The sneaky family also used a fake name and number when making their booking, so there’s no way for the restaurant to contact them.

Obviously, there’s no way you’re dine-and-dashing in 2024 without having your mugs plastered all over social media, and sure enough the restaurant has done just that in an attempt to track down the family:

With such clear pictures, surely it’s only a matter of time before someone dobs them in. Although restaurant manager Tysone Reese says he’s been left disappointed in the ‘lack of urgency’ from police regarding the unpaid £329 bill.

Tyrone says: ‘I’m paying my tax for police but I seem to be powerless. It annoys me to know this is happening and that they are getting away with it.’

On the bright side, it’s a good bit of publicity for Bella Ciao Italian restaurant in Port Talbot. I mean, £329 for 8 people is a very reasonable restaurant price in this day and age, especially given they ordered a bunch of steaks, desserts, and 15 bottles of Coke. That’s only £40 a head! So the place sounds like an absolute bargain if the food is any good.

Which it probably is, judging by its Google Reviews:

Anyway, let’s hope the culprits are caught and taught a lesson because it’s absolutely disgusting that anyone thinks this is acceptable behaviour, especially with all those children in tow too.

How soon before every restaurant starts adopting the Nando’s technique of asking customers to pay upfront before their meals?
