We all know The Sun isn’t the most tactful newspaper in the world, but it’s still pretty shocking to see them refer to 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin as ‘sword lad’ in their headline yesterday, after the teenager was murdered by Marcus Monzo in Hainault, northeast London on Tuesday morning…

Naturally it had to be squeezed into the corner of the page to make way for The Sun exclusive about Trent Alexander-Arnold going for a walk with Jude Law’s daughter, so here’s a closer look at the offending headline:

Very poor form there by Mike Sullivan and The Sun for allowing that headline to be written and published. I mean, ‘sword lad’? Really? Even we know not to be so crass and we write for a blog named Sick Chirpse ffs. It actually makes it sound like he was the perpetrator wielding the sword, rather than the innocent victim who had his life taken away for no reason whatsoever.

Imagine how vexed Daniel’s friends and family are seeing a headline like that on a national newspaper. How are The Sun going to start describing other murder victims in the future? Gun lad? Knife lass?

Here’s the general reaction on Twitter:

In case you were wondering, this is the guy who wrote the headline – The Sun’s squeaky clean crime editor Mike Sullivan:

Par for the course, I suppose, given the headline The Sun once published about JK Rowling’s abuser.
