Located in the South Island of New Zealand, Lover’s Leap is a highly technical BASEjump which has its exit point only 650m above the valley floor.

Dan Vicary base jumped it back in 2009 – opening up his parachute after two seconds – but always wanted to come back and wingsuit it. Unfortunately, in 2009 the technology needed for the wingsuit to complete the run didn’t actually exist, so Dan has been waiting patiently for it to get to the level needed for the past 4 years. Once it had, he couldn’t wait to become the first man to wingsuit Lover’s Leap.

As you’ll see in the video below though, it wasn’t all easy and required a lot of preparation from Dan, as it’s one of the most potentially dangerous jumps in the world to perform in a wingsuit. It has a rock drop of only 4.5 seconds or 110m, after which the wingsuit must be flying forwards and immediately following this there’s a sharp right turn to avoid a ledge. Needless to say, it’s a pretty batshit crazy to even attempt to do and Dan Vicary clearly has balls of steel to go through with it. Respect.

Thankfully, nobody else actually needs to do it as he filmed the whole thing so you can see exactly what it would look like doing the wingsuit. Sure, you won’t get to feel the same way but it’s pretty much the next best thing.
