A cat that was recently appointed as mayor of a town in southern Italy has been hit with devastating allegations of rigged elections and mass voter fraud as revelations about the cat’s relationship to the Vice Mayor were revealed.

Mayor Miao is set to remain in office for a year in Civita d’Antino, in Italy’s Abruzzo region, but has found himself in hot water after opposition parties were unconvinced by the legitimacy of the election results. In any case, the controversial cat looked super dignified being sworn in while rocking an Italian tricolour ribbon around his neck:

Turns out however that Miao is the pet of Vice Mayor Matteo Dio Fabio’s daughter, so it’s no wonder allegations of nepotism and rigged elections are coming into play. Then again, this is Italy we’re talking about. Of course the elections were rigged! Even in small towns no one has heard of where cats are running for mayor.

No doubt we’ll be hearing more about Miao the cat in the next year, possibly following his resignation when he’s busted abusing catnip or blackmailed with NSFW photos licking his balls.

Maybe we could borrow him for the PM job in Britain? Not like Rishi Sunak’s off to the greatest start.
