Bus Driver Who Killed Man In Front Of His Wife In Queue Jump Row Will Serve Three Years

A London bus driver who beat a man to death in front of his wife following a row over queue-jumping at Sainsbury’s has been sentenced to just five years and three months in prison – meaning he’ll serve closer to three years.

Demiesh Williams, 30, killed 43-year-old Andrew Clark after Clark called him out for cutting the queue at a Sainsbury’s in Beckenham, South London.

It wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment, instinctive assault either; Williams actually left the supermarket and went to his car where he put on a balaclava, then returned to the scene where he attacked Clark in front of his wife outside the store.

After punching Clarke to the ground, Williams shouted: “I told you to f***ing apologise”.

Clark suffered severe head injuries after hitting the pavement and died in hospital three days later.

Williams was given 5 years and 3 months for manslaughter, which is insanely lenient for someone that walked away, put on a balaclava, returned, and then struck a man with enough ferocity to kill him.

It’s especially disgraceful when you consider he’ll serve maximum up to two-thirds of his sentence before being released on license.

Understandably, Clark’s family is fuming about this and social media has followed suit, to the point where Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick has announced he will be writing to the Attorney General to have it reconsidered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

Here’s hoping justice is done in the end, although it’s ridiculous that the judge – Andrew Lees – couldn’t come up with an appropriate sentence for himself. Was he not completely horrified by the details of the case? If Williams had lost his temper in the moment and lashed out, I could maybe see the angle, but killing a man after leaving the situation and then returning to it?

It also serves as a reminder to the rest of us that telling people off for queue-jumping/blasting music on the bus etc can be incredibly dangerous. Some of these lunatics go around committing minor transgressions on purpose, hoping for people like Andrew Clark to challenge them so they can escalate it into violence.

RIP Andrew Clark – no doubt the Attorney General will do the right thing.
