Birmingham Police Under Fire After Arresting Man Who Was Clearly The Victim Of Assault
Baffling footage out of Birmingham this week as a young man was surrounded and assaulted by a group of individuals on Broad Street, and then immediately pounced on by police and arrested.
The whole thing happened right in front of the police – but for some reason, they decided to arrest the victim. To make things even worse – the lad accidentally punched the female police officer because he mistook her for one of the three guys who were attacking him:
We must demand the immediate release of the bodycam footage from the recent unlawful arrest in Birmingham.

The handling of this incident is a blatant failure of duty, as the arresting officer targeted the white male as the aggressor despite the clear reality of the situation.… pic.twitter.com/sDmwwZJoKf
Amazingly, following backlash from the public, Birmingham Police put out a statement simply stating that the incident had been ‘dealt with’, and that they had arrested and charged the young man with assaulting a police officer. WTF?
We are aware of footage showing the arrest of a man after a disorder on Broad Street at 1.30am on 21 June.

Officers found a group of men fighting. As the incident was dealt with, an officer was punched.

I’m not sure why they don’t just admit they got it wrong, because the video is all over social media and people are outraged by it. From what we can tell, the young man was clearly the victim of assault, and so the way officers reacted by apprehending him (and only him) is incomprehensible.
Not only that, but another officer goes over to the assailants to check if they’re OK, and the police completely ignore a witness who tells them the victim had been assaulted by three dudes.
As for him swinging at the female officer, that was very clearly a mistake in the heat of the moment and would not have happened if they went after the attackers rather than the victim. Birmingham Police need to drop charges against kid ASAP and get some answers for us, because the video is spreading like wildfire.
Over to you, West Midlands/Birmingham Police.
