Former Spurs player Eric Dier seems to have pulled a Steve McLaren after giving an interview in Germany following his Bayern Munich debut in a 1-0 win against Union Berlin the other night.

As some English footballers inexplicably do when they move to a new league in a new country, Eric Dier consciously or subconsciously added some native twang to his accent:

In fairness to Eric Dier, he did spend some of his childhood growing up in Portugal and so has always had a bit of a strange accent. Still, it never sounded ‘German’ until he touched down in Germany and joined his pal Harry Kane at Bayern Munich, and so naturally the internet is mocking it.

I suppose you do pick up accents quickly when you’ve grown up living in different countries, but it’s still funny to see him talking like that after just one week in Germany. Still, nothing compared to the aforementioned Steve McLaren going ‘Dutch’ on us:

An English manager, speaking in a Dutch accent, saying “We are not just, what you call…? Underdogs!”. Classic.
