Subpar bit of timing by BBC presenter Maryam Moshiri earlier as she held a middle finger up to the camera moments before she was due to go live, and was still holding it up when the bulletin began.

Decent recovery though, will give her that:

Maryam has since apologised for the incident and explained her thought process behind it:

Well, I guess that’s fair enough. Just having a moment of levity with the crew! Obviously there’s no shortage of pearl-clutchers out there in total meltdown over this, citing it as an example of the BBC’s lack of professionalism and why we shouldn’t trust them and whatnot. I mean, there’s plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the BBC’s reporting, but a presenter flipping the bird on camera? Give her a break…
