Andrew Garfield Shades JK Rowling While Praising The Cast Of The Harry Potter Films

Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield has waded into the JK Rowling/transgenderism row by having a dig at the Harry Potter creator while praising the “artists” who worked on the film.

During a recent interview on the My Life In Movies podcast, Garfield said: “[Daniel Radcliffe] is really good in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, the films are really good. I know it’s controversial and we shouldn’t be putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislations right now, through… she who shall remain nameless, but there are so many beautiful artists that worked on those films.”

So he says that supporting the franchise is “controversial” because it involves “putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislation” through Rowling. This refers to her financial support for groups like For Women Scotland, which influenced the 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling defining “woman” based on biological sex.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. At least Garfield was able to enjoy the Harry Potter films despite his disdain for JK Rowling, who has been thrown under the bus by half the cast since becoming outspoken about the problematic aspects of transgenderism.

The only Harry Potter cast members who have come out to defend JK Rowling on the issue over the years are Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, John Cleese and Tom Felton. Three out of four of whom were already well-known and respected in their own right before the Harry Potter films. Pretty wild that the ones who owe her the most gratitude are the ones who stay ready to talk smack about her in interviews.

The new Harry Potter series is out later in 2026 on HBO. So it seems the IP is still thriving, despite this idea that it’s “controversial” to be a fan.
