GB News Faces Complaints After Commentator Claims ‘Genocide’ Against White People In UK

GB News has something of a reputation of being the ‘Dad’s Army’ of the culture wars; with presenters and pundits who are very determined to fight “wokeness” but don’t really seem to be taken seriously at all. Remember right-wing Peter Andre? Incredible stuff.

More recently, they had a guy named Thomas Corbett-Dillon on the panel to talk about how there is “a genocide happening” against white people in England:

During a discussion about the UK government’s anti-extremism strategy, Corbett-Dillon said: “I hate this idea that England is just a no man’s land. No, there is an indigenous population that have lived on that island for thousands of years.

“If this was happening in any other place around the world, everyone would be defending and saying: ‘Wow, there’s a genocide happening in this island because it is being taken over by different people that are not indigenous to that land.’”

Responding to a former Liberal Democrat councillor who said he was proud to come from Leicester, Corbett-Dillon said: “Once again, another country is being turned into a no longer white nation”.

“If there is a genocide against white people, where do they go? There is no more land. So this argument: ‘Oh, but isn’t it so nice … it would be boring if we didn’t have these people.’ Because, what, you can get a curry down the street?

“Guess what? In 20, 30 years there will be no white nations left. And I would love to know where you’re planning on going when they really turn on us, because it has happened before and it will happen again.”

According to the Guardian, Ofcom has received a bunch of complaints over the comments, with groups such as Stop Funding Hate also arguing that the segment violated the Ofcom Broadcasting Code regarding:

  • Rule 3.1: Potential to stir up racial hatred by framing ethnic minorities as an “existential threat”.
  • Rule 2.3: Failure to provide adequate editorial challenge to offensive statements.

Ofcom is investigating, and Corbett-Dillon has since announced that he stands by what he said. He’d probably have been OK if he didn’t use the word ‘genocide’, since that term is usually reserved for, let’s say, what’s happening in Palestine at the moment. But perhaps a bit OTT for the point he was trying to make. Then again, I’m sure some will argue it’s an entirely appropriate word.

Well anyway, we’ll have to see what happens. It’s amazing that enough people even watch GB News for the complaints to have been lodged in the first place. Genuinely, how does that channel survive?
