Too many comedians feel like they need to walk on eggshells when trying to make people laugh these days, but that definitely isn’t true of comic Markus Birdman who told some edgy jokes about paedophilia during Wednesday’s semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent.

Markus told the audience, live on ITV1: “You don’t know fatherly pride until you see your then-13 year old daughter play a ‘lady of the night’ and absolutely nail it.”

Lol? He then continued: “Any women here? I no longer make jokes at the expense of women, which is a shame, because I had some really good ones.”

Later, he talked about ‘following your dreams’, before adding: “Dreams are like children, if you follow them too long, people get very suspicious.”

And then as he drew his set to a close, he talked about suffering a stroke which then lead into a pop at judge Bruno Tonioli: “A few years ago I could barely string a sentence together and it’s really great for Bruno to recreate that for me this evening.”

While Simon Cowell hit the red buzzer, Amanda Holden was bowled over by the whole thing and praised the comic for his dark humour while taking a dig at the recreationally offended types:

“For all the wokery and all the snowflakes out there, I applaud you because this is the way forward not the other way. Well done.”

Everyone’s now having a pop at Amanda and telling her p*ss off to GB News if she wants to use the word ‘woke’ so much (it’s the not the first time she’s gone off about this sort of thing), which is fair enough, but at the same, she’s also kind of right? Obviously all comedy is subjective butthe reason you might find paedo jokes funny is because you know you’re not supposed to laugh at them. The idea of Markus Birdman actually being proud of his daughter playing a ‘lady of the night’ in the school play is just too outrageous to be true. Like, imagine if that person actually existed. It’s just ridiculous.

Then again, that kind of person does exist and that’s why others get offended by these jokes. For them, it’s no joking matter. So maybe that’s why Simon Cowell hit his red buzzer and prevented Markus Birdman from advancing to the BGT final; whatever jokes he told in the finale might’ve got the show cancelled for good. Fair enough really. Not that this would’ve been a bad thing.
