Rainn Wilson Says “F You” To Ricky Gervais For Telling Celebrities To Shut Up About Politics

Rainn Wilson has hit out at Ricky Gervais for claiming that celebrities should STFU about politics on public platforms and when accepting awards on stage.

When hosting the 2020 Golden Globes, Gervais famously told the celebrities in attendance: “So if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and f- off.”

Six years on, U.S. Office legend Wilson has strongly disagreed with his U.K. counterpart:

Wilson says: “One of the things that p-sses me off to no end is Ricky Gervais saying, ‘Just take your actor award. No one wants to hear what you have to say.’ It’s like, F- you. B-llshit”

“Everyone gets to say what they want to say about anything. Gaza, climate change, politics. You get to say it if you’re a truck driver or a school teacher. We have free speech”

“Why would you try to shame and silence someone from speaking their truth?”

Well, it’s fair point. But I don’t think that Ricky Gervais was actually saying actors aren’t allowed to speak? He was pointing out how ridiculous it is for the most privileged, out-of-touch people in society to lecture regular folk about politics whilst on stage, and basically reckons it’s pure virtue signaling.

Is it necessarily virtue signalling, though? If an actor wants to get on stage and talk about Epstein or Trump or Gaza then I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. Either way, bit bold of Wilson to have a go at Ricky Gervais of all people. He probably wouldn’t have a career without him!
