Man Accused Of Punching Seagull To Death After It Stole His Cornish Pasty

A British holidaymaker is under investigation after allegedly grabbing a seagull out of the air and repeatedly punching it as revenge for stealing his Cornish pasty.

The incident occurred last Wednesday afternoon, June 10, on the busy seafront of St Ives, Cornwall.

Jonathan “Jonny” Roberts, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, was enjoying his Cornish pasty when the wild herring gull swooped down and snatched it out of his hands. That’s just what seagulls do!

Unfortunately on this occasion – this seagull messed with the wrong psycho….

Horrified witnesses claim Roberts plucked the bird mid-air, punched it multiple times, and then slammed it against a wall in front of numerous other holidaymakers and traumatised children.

A witness said: ‘He was walking with his wife and child and the gull just swooped down and stole his pasty.

‘He just grabbed it and had its head in his hand and punched it hard in the chest. It was sort of held in his arm so it couldn’t escape.

‘After three or four punches the bird went limp then he threw it to the ground where it just lay there, it was still alive but its chest cavity was caved in and I think it just went off to die.

‘I went over and berated him as did some other people, I said “you can’t do that, its illegal” and his wife said the same, I think she was shocked, I asked if he’d do the same to a child who stole an ice cream but he just called me a cow and told me to f*** off.

Pretty dumb question at the end there, to be fair. But I guess tensions were running high.

Either way, this Jonny Roberts guy is clearly bad news, and he may be due some bad karma after what he did. Hasn’t he seen The Lighthouse…?

At the end of the day, you can’t be beating seagulls to death, whether they stole your Cornish pasty or not. Some people are actually claiming the seagull survived and was seen waddling off some time after the beating, so let’s hope that’s the case.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: ‘We are appealing for witnesses and footage following a report of a seagull being attacked in St Ives.

‘Devon & Cornwall Police received a third hand report about the incident which is said to have taken place on the seafront on the afternoon of Wednesday 10 June.’

Despite seagulls appearing to be everywhere, they are actually a dwindling species – with just over a million in the UK.
