Two Teachers Banned From Classroom After String Of Disturbing Incidents At Private School In Lincolnshire
Two teachers, a headmaster, and deputy head, have all been banned from the profession indefinitely following a string of vile and disturbing incidents at a private school in Lincolnshire.
Head teacher Adam Webb, deputy head Alison Simmons, tutor Thomas Hayward, and tutor Matthew Oyitch all worked for the Build-a-Future Independent School – a school with 125 children, aged 13 to 16, who had been permanently excluded from mainstream schools or have special educational needs or disabilities or mental-health issues.
The two teachers, Thomas Hayward (above left) and Matthew Oyitch (above right), were accused of the following… (as per Lincolnshire Live):
- Played “cricket” with a dead pheasant they found on the road, encouraging pupils to hit the carcass with a bat in the playground.
- Slaughtered live baby chicks in front of the children and made them play “bat and ball” with the body of a young cockerel.
- Called vulnerable pupils “donkeys”, “sp@stics”, “window lickers”, “soft c***s”, “fat t***s”, “fat c***s”, “m*ng” and “m*ng face”.
- Referred to the house for children with extra needs as “the sp@stic house” in front of the pupils.
- On one occasion – threw stones and eggs at the children while cussing them.
- Encouraged playfighting among the students.
- Brought live ammunition to school (Hayward)
- Simulated sex acts with pupils (Hayward)
The group, including the headteacher and deputy head who knew this was going on and were sometimes involved, were arrested by police on suspicion of child cruelty and neglect after a whistleblower raised the alarm.
The police investigation ended with no further action taken, but the matter continued to be monitored by the teaching authorities, and was eventually referred to the TRA.
The TRA’s misconduct panels convened in January, and the body has now published full and final prohibition-order reports on all four teachers.
Headteacher Adam Webb was found to have “failed to safeguard the welfare of pupils” and had, in some cases, “reinforced harmful behaviour and attitudes”.
The panel also found that he had “crossed a clear safeguarding threshold” and exposed pupils to “inappropriate and harmful experiences”.
Deputy head Alison Simmons was found to have shown “no insight or remorse” and her behaviour had “amounted to unprofessional conduct, exposing children to risk”.
As for the two teachers – well, I think that list of allegations speak for itself. Hayward must wait until 2034 to apply for review and Oyitch until until 2031.
All teachers have a right to appeal to the High Court, but given that none of them turned up to their hearings or chose anyone to represent them, I think they’ve accepted that they have to take their medicine on this one.
Hopefully these kids don’t grow up to become serial killers after being made to play cricket with a dead pheasant and witnessing baby chicks being slaughtered. Seriously, what on Earth were these people thinking? At least they were outdoors, I suppose.
