Kanye Apologises Amid Wireless Backlash – Wants To Meet Members Of The U.K.’s Jewish Community

Having already taken out a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal last year, Kanye West has further apologised to the Jewish community in a statement addressing the backlash to him headlining this summer’s Wireless Festival in London.

After Wireless organisers announced they will be keeping Kanye as the headline act, the rapper put out the following statement on his socials:

It reads: ‘I’ve been following the conversation around Wireless, and I want to address it directly.

‘My only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music. I would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person, to listen.

‘I know words aren’t enough – I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here. With love, Ye.’

The Board of Deputies of British Jews has responded to Ye’s statement, saying they are willing to meet with Ye, but only if he agrees not to perform at the festival this year:

“We are willing to meet Kanye West as part of his journey of healing, but only after he agrees not to play the Wireless Festival this year.”

I mean, what kind of negotiation is that? We’ll only meet with you for peace talks if you agree to not perform at Wireless this year. Well, what about next year or the year after that? It doesn’t actually seem like they want to meet Kanye or have productive talks, they just want to stop him performing at Wireless.

At this point maybe Kanye should just ignore the drama and do the show as scheduled on July 10 – 12. He just made $33 million performing two nights at SoFi stadium in LA despite all the controversies of the last few years, which proves he’s still one of the biggest draws on the planet. He doesn’t need to surrender to anyone just because they insist on having their cake and eating it.

It’s going to be an interesting summer.
