John Davidson Breaks Social Media Cover Over BAFTA’s Controversy: “I Will Never Apologise For Having Tourette’s”

It’s crazy that the BAFTA’s Tourette’s row is still raging on over a week later, so much so that John Davidson has been laying low the entire time and hoping for the dust to settle.

He’s now broken his social media silence over the incident, which comes after he continues to be mocked by Hollywood and made out to be the villain for involuntarily yelling the N-word on live TV.

Here’s John’s post:

What a guy. A man with Tourette’s thanking the people for their support after a week of global humiliation and vilification. Apologising for hurt he never intended to cause, while refusing to apologise for having a neurological condition he cannot control.

Which makes the continued harassment of him by Hollywood even more disappointing. OK, Deon Cole’s monologue at the NAACP Awards was actually quite amusing and obviously in jest, but for SNL to make an entire skit mocking his condition? For Delroy Lindo to add fuel to the fire? Jamie Foxx insisting he “meant that sh1t”?

These multimillionaire celebrities make a big song and dance about inclusion but seem unwilling to educate themselves about Tourette’s and the reality of living with the condition. The BAFTAs invited a man with Tourette’s into the building to celebrate his film about Tourette’s, and everyone’s somehow shocked and appalled that Tourette’s actually showed up on the night.

Big up John Davidson for showing pure class and integrity. Hopefully in the long run this does a world of good for Tourette’s awareness.
