NHS Doctor Who Spied On Men In Toilets Says He Just Wanted To Compare Penis Size

An NHS doctor has been struck off the medical register after installing hidden cameras to spy on friends, colleagues and Airbnb guests, as a means to compare his penis size to theirs.

Ju Young Um, 34, hid the devices in air fresheners and a smoke alarm in the bathroom and bedroom of his flat and in staff accommodation at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The anesthesist claimed he was born with a “small penis” due to suspected childhood gigantism and used the footage for comparison due to body dysmorphia. He initially denied a sexual motive but later admitted there was a “duality of motivation” involving sexual gratification.

He recorded 30 people in total – 21 men and 9 women – including four fellow doctors. Victims were filmed showering, using the toilet, and, in some cases, having sex.

His willy-watching operation was busted when one victim became suspicious of two air fresheners, which appeared to be facing the toilet and the shower.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) has now permanently removed Um from the medical register, citing a “high risk of repetition” and a serious breach of professional standards.

Aside from that, he was jailed for 18 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

When sentenced by the judge, he asked: “Can you not make it longer?” (just kidding).

In evidence submitted to the MPTS, Um explained his thought process behind covertly filming other men’s penises.

He said: ‘I now accept that at that time I was suppressing sexual needs as part of my denial of sexual gratification.

‘I would say, however, that there was a duality of motivation in that, but for the Body Dysmorphic Disorder, I would not have acted as I did, but I accept I only focused on my BDD to explain my actions.

‘I also now realise I was deluding myself that sexual gratification was not part of my motivation, whereas in reality I derived pleasure from my viewing of the images.

‘I fully understand the negative impacts they must have had on my victims. I deeply regret what I have done to them and wish to express my sincerest apologies.’

Of course, there was always going to be a sexual element involved, because I can’t imagine another profession where raw data on penis size is more easily accessible than a doctor. Aside from working in the porn industry, I suppose.

In any case, here’s hoping Ju Young Um got the answers he was looking for, although ultimately I doubt it was worth the trouble.
