Shoplifting Sisters Who Plundered Duty Free Ordered To Repay £220,000

Two sisters who plundered Gatwick Duty Free for perfume and make-up in order to fund their plastic surgery obsession have been ordered to pay back £220,000.

Laura Epitropou and Georgina Epitropou, both from Crawley, West Sussex, are already serving 2.5 years in prison for the spree.

Between November 2021 and September 2022, the sisters took 22 domestic flights (primarily to Edinburgh) purely to access duty-free areas. They used a distraction technique where one sister occupied staff while the other filled a suitcase with high-value perfumes and cosmetics.

The duo stole items worth up to £80,000 and sold most of it online for half price, with bank records showing they made sales totalling £40,000 in that 10-month period.

They spunked all that cash on living it up and getting cosmetic surgery, including Brazilian butt lifts, liposuctions, fillers, and approximately £15,000 spent on Botox between them. That’s a lot of Botox!

In the end, they were caught while boarding a flight from Belfast with £2,000 worth of stolen goods in their luggage.

So on top of being handed 2.5 years in prison each (their sentences began in September 2024), the Epitropou sisters also have to repay £220,000, or else they’ll have to spend even more time in jail.

Do they have the money to pay back £220,000? Probably not.

It actually feels a bit harsh that they have to pay back more almost 3x the amount they were proven to have stolen, but apparently there was loads more unexplained cash and luxury items in their possession, which the courts also deemed as proceeds of crime as the girls couldn’t prove where they’d got it all from.

The worst part about it? They took all that risk to then waste all that cash on cosmetic surgery to look absolutely awful. Well, IMO anyway. Serious 5.30am Easyjet flight to Magaluf vibes. But whatever floats your boat.
