Peter Mandelson Resigns After Being Pictured In His Underwear In The Epstein Files

Former US ambassador Lord Peter Mandelson has resigned from the Labour Party after a photo of him chatting to a woman in his underpants was included in the latest Epstein files release.

The former cabinet minister, who had already been sacked as US ambassador last year because of his connections to Epstein, says he does not want to cause “further embarrassment” by his links to the disgraced paedophile financier.

Could we not just keep him around and address him as Lord Underpants from now on?

Aside from the photo in his tighty whiteys, there’s also this creepy exchange from 2009 between Mandelson and Epstein:

Epstein: You can marry Princess Beatrice; the queen would have a queen as a grandson.

Mandelson: Remember, I am already her Lord President.

Epstein: Does that make it incest? How exciting.

In total, Peter Mandelson is mentioned nearly 6,000 times in the Epstein files (well, the ones that have been released thus far), and there’s loads more strange e-mails between the pair:

Financial records from the US Department of Justice also list three payments of $25,000 each (totaling $75,000) from Epstein’s accounts to bank accounts linked to Peter Mandelson or his partner in 2003–2004.

Mandelson says he has “no recollection” of receiving this money. Weird, I can still remember winning £10 on a scratchcard 10 years ago!

Mandelson has previously expressed regret over his association with Epstein, but clearly these two were very close for a number of years and kept corresponding even after Epstein had been convicted in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

In fact Mandelson encouraged him to “fight for early release.”

So I guess he had no choice but to resign after all this, though it’s a bit of missed opportunity for Keir Starmer to not sack him first. Will he lose his “Lord” title and all the other privileges he has going on too? You would think so.
