Lupita Nyong’o Is Reportedly Playing Helen Of Troy In ‘The Odyssey’

Lupita Nyong’o has reportedly been cast as Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Odyssey, and as you might expect it’s sent the internet into a bit of a tailspin.

Oscar-winner Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave, Black Panther, A Quiet Place: Day One) is set to play “The face that launched 1,000 ships,” and naturally this has resulted in some people freaking out about historical accuracy and wokeness ruining movies.

Here’s the gist of the reaction:

Even Elon Musk had his say on X, claiming Christopher Nolan had “lost all integrity”:

Well, as long the movie is epic (and judging by the trailer – it will be), I’m not sure there should be too many complaints. Yeah OK it might be easier if Helen of Troy was more, um, Greek-looking, but at the end of the day she’s a literal mythological figure who was born after Zeus sh*gged a swan which was actually Leda in disguise.

It’s worth noting that other reports suggest Nyong’o might actually be playing Athena or even pulling double duty as Clytemnestra, but the “Helen” rumours are what’s currently trending on X.

Christopher Nolan has a solid track record when it comes to picking the right actor for the right role, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I’m sure he’s considered this carefully and based purely on Lupita Nyong’o’s talent and suitability and nothing else whatsoever . After all, he’s also got Travis Scott a role in this movie! How could that possibly be a bad choice?
