Salt Bae’s Empire Faces Closures And Scandals After Meteoric Rise

Salt Bae was cool for about 5 minutes when he first showed up on the scene, but his credibility has nosedived ever since with a whole bunch of stories showing what an utter kn0b he is, which have now resulted in significant financial losses and several of his restaurants closing.

Among the controversies:

• Being a complete weirdo at the World Cup.
• Stealing tips from workers at his restaurants.
• Charging £700 – £1450 for steaks, £70 for burgers and £9 for bottled water.
• Paying £12-13 an hour (‘fast-food wages’) to employees.
• Trying to ban a rival from using the word ‘SALT’ in a high-profile legal battle (he lost).
• Discrimination and harassment lawsuits from female and non-Turkish employees.
• Making former employees queue outside to pose as customers.

Furthermore, he never really diversified his brand and simply relied on sprinkling salt onto his elbow and into people’s food, and it was only a matter of time before people realised how stupid that was.

Well it looks like that time has now come because accounts filed in late 2025 reveal that the UK-based arm of Salt Bae’s business recorded a £5.4 million loss. This deficit was largely attributed to a £6.6 million loss of its struggling US operations.

Salt Bae once had restaurants in 7 locations around the US, but has now scaled back to just two; in Miami and Manhattan.

He is still running one restaurant in the UK – the luxury steakhouse Nusr-Et London, located in Knightsbridge. To manage costs, the restaurant has removed its signature £1,450 gold-covered steak from the menu and has implemented measures to cut back on central heating.

I guess we’re all the feeling the pinch these days. Still, fair play to Salt Bae for making a success of it up to this point. It’s actually amazing that people ever paid thousands of pounds to dine at his restaurants and have him sprinkle salt onto their food. Leo, Rihanna, Ronaldo etc made it seem like the cool thing to do!

Unfortunately for Salt Bae, he’s proven himself to be a bit of tw@t since then and so that’s no longer the case.
