There’s been so much backlash around Salt Bae’s dorky behaviour at the World Cup final that FIFA have finally put out a statement addressing the incident.

In case you missed it, Salt Bae (Nusret Gökçe) was seen pestering Lionel Messi and his teammates on the pitch following the final whistle and even broke an official FIFA rule by kissing and holding the 18-carat gold World Cup trophy.

FIFA put out the following statement earlier:

“Following a review, FIFA has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on 18 December. The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

Call me crazy but it might have something to do with FIFA President Gianni Infantino (the ‘today I feel like an African’ guy), who has been sucking Salt Bae off for the last two years. Just a hunch:

As journalist Tariq Panja says, they’ll probably just blame it on some lower-level employee and move on:

Well, whatever happens, hopefully we can all move on from this topic and never have to see this guy outside of one of his restaurants ever again. With any luck he’ll be Salt Banned from ever turning up at a major football tournament again.

The organisers of the US Open Cup have already made sure he won’t be gatecrashing their event. A fitting punishment for Salt Bae’s crimes against humanity and football.
