Sadiq Khan Kicks Off The New Year By Hitting Out At Trump, Calls Him A ‘Bully’

It looks like the Trump v Khan beef is set to continue into 2026, which would make it a whole 10 years since they began taking pops at each other in 2016.

In a New Year interview with Politico, Khan branded the US President a “bully”, claimed Trump was “obsessed” with him, and vowed to keep standing up to him.

Khan said: “The best way to deal with a bully, whether it’s in the playground or in the White House, is to stand up to them. You don’t get more respect from a bully by cowering”

“And when somebody attacks my city, our citizens, our values, our way of life — when somebody makes certain generalisations about the followers of one faith — I think it’s incumbent to stand up to them.”

He also joked that he thought Trump would switch his focus to Zohran Mamdani when he was elected mayor of New York, and says the fact the two of them appeared to get along at the Oval Office a few weeks back was a form of “tactical diplomacy” from Trump.

He said: “When you look at the animus, hatred and bile coming from President Trump towards me. I sort of assumed when Zohran was elected, President Trump would be two-timing me and spending time targeting Zohran.”

On Trump’s criticism of immigration in the UK: “It’s bile not just towards me, but.. sweeping generalisations about the country in terms of the immigration policy and how elections are fought and won.”

He added: “I genuinely think he’s obsessed. And there have been many periods where he’s said horrible things and I’ve not responded because I’m just too busy to get involved in tittle-tattle, and this pathetic name-calling.”

Last month, Trump called Khan a ‘horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor‘ who had done a ‘terrible job’, and no doubt he’ll have more to say after he gets wind of these latest comments.

The beef between these two began a decade ago when Khan condemned Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States. Trump, in response, challenged the newly elected London mayor to an IQ test. Sadly, it never transpired.

Then, in 2019, Trump called Khan a “stone-cold loser” and the “twin of de Blasio, except shorter”. Khan then approved a permit for protesters to fly a giant “Trump baby” blimp.

Fast forward to 2025, Trump claimed he had personally requested that Khan not be invited to events during his Presidential visit to London, and then followed that up with comments about him at the UN. Khan then suggested in an interview that Trump has a ‘crush’ on him.

Trump then took another dig at Khan and said London is a place you go if you want to get ‘stabbed in the @ss.‘ It’s just what politicians do these days, right? What a sign of the times…
