Charlie Kirk Suspect Tyler Robinson Joked About ‘Doppelganger’ In Group Chat With Friends After Shooting
The plot continues to thicken in the Charlie Kirk assassination after the NY Times obtained text messages from Tyler Robinson’s group chat with friends in the hours following the shooting.
Below is a summation of what is written in the article, with the initial text ‘WYA’ (where you at?) sent alongside a skull emoji and a CCTV image that resembled Robinson…
Wednesday 1pm MDT
F1: WYA
TR: My doppelganger is trying to get me in trouble
F2: Tyler Killed Charlie!!!!
After Robinson joked that the gunman was his look-alike, another user suggested that the group could turn Robinson in and get the $100,000 reward that the F.B.I. was offering.
TR: Only if I get a cut
F3: Whatever you do, don’t go to a McDonald’s anytime soon (referencing the arrest of Luigi Mangione).
TR: (Agrees) Better get rid of this manifesto and exact copy rifle I have lying around.
Another user suggested that the killing of Charlie Kirk would lead President Trump to send the National Guard to Utah
TR: “in a red state??? nah CLEARLY the shooter was from california.”
TR: “I heard the ammo had somethin about trans stuff on it, but they aren’t releasing photos or exact quotes, and also the claim wasn’t backed by the official fbi, just some dude in the briefing room.”
TR: “I’m actually Charlie Kirk, wanted to get outta politics so I faked my death, now I can live out my dream life in kansas.”
How are we supposed to interpret this? Sounds like a bunch of kids joking around and not necessarily the kind of input you would expect from someone who had assassinated Charlie Kirk hours earlier. He just seems a little too relaxed and ‘normal’ considering what he had just done? Then again maybe that’s the sort of undercover insanity that’s required to pull off a stunt like this in the first place.
The messages do not provide any insight into a possible motivation, though the leading narrative seems to be that Robinson was defending his transgender boyfriend’s honour, given Kirk’s anti-trans rhetoric and the timing of the shot, which came immediately after Kirk answered a question on transgender mass shooters.
The New York Times said it got hold of the group chat after a member who said he knew Tyler in high school shared them on condition of anonymity, adding that he hadn’t seen Robinson in person for years.
It’s also worth noting that Tyler Robinson has NOT confessed to authorities and is not cooperating with the investigation, according to Utah Governer Spencer Cox. Although he did allegedly confess to his father after being confronted over CCTV images that resembled him, prompting his dad to turn him in.
Still not quite sure what to make of the contents of this group chat, but it will certainly lend more fuel to the conspiracy theories doing the rounds. What do you think?
