Israel ‘Is Planning To Throw Greta Thunberg In A Terror Cell’

Greta Thunberg is on her way back to Gaza in an attempt to break Israel’s naval blockade and deliver food and supplies, following an unsuccessful attempt earlier this year where she and her crew were intercepted.

This time, Greta is coming with serious back-up in the form of the Global Sumud Flotilla; more than 50 ships and delegations from at least 44 countries. Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham is also on board, as is former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau.

Naturally, Israel is not happy about this and the plan is to deal with Greta a lot more harshly this time. According to Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, plans are being drafted to arrest Greta,  seize the ships, and convert them into a police fleet.

Sources close to Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli national security minister, told the paper: “Following several weeks at Ktzi’ot and Damon (Israeli prisons), they’ll be sorry about the time they arrived here. We must eliminate their appetite for another attempt.”

They added that Thunberg could be detained in “terrorist-level conditions”.

Oh dear. I’m pretty sure Israel is not bluffing given that they are already committing war crimes, having killed more than 63,000 Palestinians, with at least 332 dying of malnutrition, since October 7, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Just the other day they killed the Prime Minister of Yemen, what’s to stop them throwing Greta Thunberg in prison, let alone kill her too?

Somehow I don’t think Greta will be undeterred, but I’m not really sure it’s worth sacrificing her life over. She’s obviously very brave, no matter what else you want to say about her, and perhaps doesn’t even expect to make a successful voyage to Gaza this time either. Even still, as with last time, the flotilla could be effective in getting the world to tune in to the situation and see food aid get turned away in the midst of a famine.

Is Greta really going to martyr herself for the cause? Probably best to stay alive, if you ask me. That way she can use her influence over and over again, rather than just have her death downplayed by the media as with all the journalists and victims who have been killed in the war already. It would just be one more terrible story in this awful saga, that will probably do nothing to change it.

Before setting off last Sunday, Greta had said: “This project is part of a global uprising of people standing up… when our governments fail to step up, the people will take their place, and that their atrocities and their complicity in the genocide in Gaza right now… is not something that we can stand for.”

Terrible weather actually forced the flotilla to return to port, but the journey was resumed yesterday, on September 1. The plan is to reach Gaza by mid-September. Let’s see how that turns out…
