For the last 15 or so years, from the moment that EA Sport’s ‘FIFA’ series of games managed to swipe the crown of best football game off Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’, they took the ball and absolutely ran with it after introducing modes like FUT and Alex Hunter’s career mode (OK maybe not actually that) that made the updated version of the game an essential purchase every year – but it looks like this run is going to come to an end with FIFA ’23.
Yes, the news has sadly broken today that EA and FIFA are going to end their 30 year partnership after the release of the latest instalment of the franchise in September. Instead, next year we’ll be getting a version of the game called ‘EA Sports FC’ which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it does it?
After nearly 30 years of creating genre-defining interactive football experiences, we will soon begin an exciting new era.
Next year, EA SPORTS FC will become the future of football from EA SPORTS. Alongside our 300+ licence partners across the sport, we’re ready to take global football experiences to new heights, on behalf of all football fans around the world.
Everything you love about our games will be part of EA SPORTS FC – the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes will be there. Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football will all be there.
In terms of things that they’ll miss, players will notice only two things: The name and a World Cup piece of content every four years. Outside of that, very little will change about the things they know, and love about the current FIFA products.
The post also included messages of support from the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, UEFA and basically anyone else that you would give a shit about except FIFA themselves, so it seems like nothing is really going to change except the name and World Cup content. Phew – for a second there I though we were going to go back to the Pro Evo days of ‘West London Blue’ and ‘Merseyside Red’ without the real player names and everything else that comes along with the FIFA licence?
Thankfully though, that doesn’t seem like that’s the case anymore and that EA Sports are more influential than FIFA in this market now. Ballin’.
FIFA ’23 Will Be The Last Edition Of The Iconic EA Sports Franchise

For more of the same, check out this celebrity version of FIFA that someone created with their own commentary that was actually really funny. Seriously, trust me on this one.
