4) Sexist As Fuck

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN -AUGUST 20 : Afghan women in burqas wait in line at a polling station on August 20, 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Afghans voted on Thursday to elect a president for the second time in history with election officials stating that turnout was healthy despite sporadic violence by the Taliban. The incumbent President, Karzai is considered to be the frontrunner despite claims of corruption and what many consider an ineffectual government. (Photo by Paula Bronstein/Getty Images)

Religion has been used to subjugate women since it was invented. To read about Islamic sexism to the worst degree, read this article about sexism in Saudi Arabia. Totally ridiculous.

The problem is, the religious texts were written in a medieval desert, or before, or after in medieval Europe, who knows. Either way they were written a long time ago in a less than free-thinking society.

Here are some impressively sexist verses from the Bible:

1 Timothy 2:12

I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent.

Ephesians 5:22

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 11:3

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man.

1 Corinthians 14:34

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

1 Timothy 2:9

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

Liberals will say things like “well, it was written a long time ago, things were different then”. Yes, you’re right, so if it really was written by god, maybe he should have thought about that, or brought out aBible part II, rather than sit on his hands for 2000 fucking years.

The Christians will say, “well, you picked through and found a few of the worst things, it’s mostly good” – well, it should be wholly good if god fucking wrote it. Dickhead. So should we just ignore the bits that are sexist? Is it ok to all of a sudden start editing god’s words? Come on. Make your mind up, it’s either the infallible word of god or we can pick and choose what we want to believe.
