Following Jon Jones’ pulling out of the main event of UFC 200 after he tested positive for a banned substance, everyone was wondering just who Daniel Cormier would be fighting at the event, if anyone.

Well, following a day of rollercoaster negotiating, UFC and Dana White did manage to find an opponent for Cormier and it’s a doozy – he’ll be fighting the man who many consider to be the best pound for pound fighter in the sport’s history: Anderson Silva. Talk about pulling it out of the bag.

Here’s the press conference where the announcement was made:

Big. Here’s what Cormier had to say about the change up:

I am honoured to share the Octagon with one of the greatest fighters of all time.

This is a very tough fight for me, and I have to fight smart and to do my best in order to win this fight.

Thank you Anderson for stepping up, and thanks to Dana White and the UFC for making this happen. Now let’s go do this.

Well, it’s not exactly Jones V Cormier II but it should still be a fairly awesome fight and it also gives us even more time to eventually hype up the rematch between Jones and Cormier. That could of course be over two years away if Jones is banned for doping but let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

He didn’t look in too good a way yesterday when he was talking about it though – poor guy.
