Three men have been arrested and charged with GBH over a pretty savage attack on a British family in Thailand which left all three family members unconscious in the middle of a busy street.

The family were named by the Bangkok Post as Lewis Owen, 68, is wife Rosemary, 65 and their son John, 43.

A witness drinking at the same bar in Hua Hin  claimed the gang were drunk and specifically targeting Westerners.

Three of the four assailants have been arrested – Yingyai Kwangkum-in, 32; Supatra Baithong, 32; Siva Yoksri, 20; and still at large – Chaiya Jaiboon, 20.

Bizarrely, Thai state media releases this image of the Tourism Minister for Hua Hin presenting police with flowers “to thank them for having carried out their investigation so quickly”:

Colonel Chaiyakorn says:

The perpetrators said they were drunk. They have also apologised to the family.

He said the son needed 7 stiches for a scalp wound, the dad had a swollen wound on his head, and the mum suffered a head injury that has left her with occasional headaches.

Another witness, who was also beaten when he tried to stop the attack, wrote online

Within 20/30 meters of leaving the bar the Thais were punching the 65-year-old old lady in the face.

The elderly gentleman was down on the floor, and their son was beaten very badly.

At this point I caught up to the scene and pushed one of the youths away from the woman,” he continued.

I got severely punched and kicked for my troubles, but felt the need to protect this frail lady.

The three of them are still hospitalised, and I will need cosmetic dental work done.

The whole thing doesn’t make Thailand seem like the most hospitable of places does it? Which I guess is why their media is trying to make such a big deal of the police response. The most savage part is when the sweet old lady sits up in a daze and kicks full on kicked in the face. What kind of animal would kick a 65-year-old lady named Rosemary in the face? There’s really no punishment sufficient enough for that.
