Fright Night (1985 & 2011)

Charlie Brewster

Charley Brewster had the dream and dared to live it. Brewster is just an average teenager trying his best to fight away acne whilst spending his Friday nights watching old Channel 5 softcore pornos spliced in with a large dose of gothic horror films. He stays up late and has a hard on for anything slightly vampiric – especially his undisputed hero – Peter Vincent.

Charley then finds out that his new next door neighbour, Jerry Dandridge, is in fact a thirsty old vampire and intends to spend the rest of forever sucking away at the neck of any beautiful young women he can get back to his place – including Charlie’s unrequited love interest Amy.

The film is very 80s but has to rate highly as one of the best vamp films out there. Charlie does his best impression of a vampire slayer and makes us all dream that maybe one day we might save the town, slay some vampires and get the girl…just gotta dedicate more time to watching dodgy horror films that’s all.

They rehashed Fright Night at the end of 2011 and called on Colin Farrell to reprise the role of Dandridge, however, without the original Charlie the magic was lost and replaced with tacky 3D. Although Dr Who was in it doing a convincing impression of Russell Brand throughout.
